Zamina Mina eh eh Waka Waka eh eh

So the official World Cup 2010 song got selected and chosen to be Waka Waka (Time for Africa). The song is co-written and sung by Shakira. It is a very catchy song that would get you groove to the beat but something about it just doesn't feel right. I really have nothing against Shakira. I appreciate the music she writes and performs. I am a fan of her music there's no doubt about that. But, it just doesn't somewhat feel right.
Why?! To start off, I would have expected that at least an African artist would have sung it. Why opt for a Colombian who has zero African roots? I'm not too happy on the opening line of the song either, that turned out to be "You're a good soldier", I don't find it sending out a good message at all. Okay many would say that the beats are African and the back up are a South African group called Freshlyground. But c'mon, she's at the front and centre of the song. Her voice is the one you hear mostly.

I might be too pesimistic with this but then it's just that everyone refers to the song as being an original of Shakira while she actually borrowed the total chorus from an old Twenty-three year old song by the Golden Sounds called Zangelewa. This song has been so popular two decades ago to the extent that the band themselves changed their name to Zangelewa from how famous the song became. The band were of ex-Cameroonian military men who used to dress in comical clothings for the sake of making those who went through opression laugh. The lyrics are in Cameroonian and has been an anthem to all military, policemen and boyscouts across Africa. It has been said that:

The song, music historians say, is a criticism of black military officers who were in league with whites to oppress their own people.
Meh something about this song is just strange and what a choice it is, at least to me. It's all related to war while it's not the theme here (unless they regard football as war that is equal to the genocides and wars witnessed in Africa, which is utterly wrong). What happened to unity of all nations in a beautfiul game? I guess they got bored and decided war was appropriate? *bangs table*

Anyways I've been petulant and tetchy enough so here you go. The South Africa World Cup 2010 Official Song. But who chooses Waka Waka for a title?! Ah well, Enjoy guys..!!

And oh, feel free to disagree. All that rambling and scribbling was just my 50 baisas.
